Coal Creek Animal Hospital is a brand-new, full-service practice founded by Dr. Ashley Barnes. Together with her team, we'll be providing personalized care to dogs, cats, and pocket pets in Lafayette, CO, and the surrounding areas.
Our mission is to provide high-quality, individualized medicine to companion animals and support the human-animal bond for our clients, patients, and community.
Dr. Ashley is passionate about pet healthcare. While she originally wanted to focus on human medicine, it was the wagging tails and big eyes at a puppy rescue that brought her over to veterinary medicine. As for the rest of the team at Coal Creek Animal Hospital, they too got into the field of veterinary care because they love animals (and they want to be loved by them too). So if you ever see them sneaking your pet an extra treat, they might just be trying extra hard to win them over.
Veterinary Care You Can Depend On
Coal Creek Animal Hospital proudly employs Fear-Free Certified professionals. Just like us, our pets can get a little skittish at the doctors, and the compassionate veterinary team at CCAH has made it our mission to keep those tails wagging at every appointment.
Some of the tools we use to make each visit a pawsitive experience are:
- Using treats as motivation (just try and find a team member without a cookie in their pocket)
- Safe environment association, we encourage you to bring their favorite treats or toys to their appointments
- Prescribing anti-anxiety medication as needed
- Recommending Feliway spray in cat carriers before visits
- Focusing on Cooperative Care between us and you. This may include additional positive reinforcements, rescheduling visits, or performing exams outside instead of inside the practice.
We are a cat-friendly practice offering feline-only exam rooms with heated blankets, Feliway diffusers, and other cozy, kitty amenities. As a practice, Coal Creek Animal Hospital will be working towards becoming cat-friendly certified as soon as we receive their AAHA accreditation.

You'll find us in the newly renovated building at 260 S 112th St in Lafayette. Now you may be asking yourself, didn't that used to be a dance hall and saloon? Yes, it most certainly was, and it's hosted a variety of businesses since, including a restaurant, a furniture store, and a travel agency. We are so excited to be a part of the rich history of this building and town, and cannot wait to meet you and your furry friends!
