Nose-to-Tail Wellness & Preventive Care

Guy playing with dog

When it comes to our pets, prevention is the best medicine. When your furry friend visits Coal Creek Animal Hospital, they are treated like the unique pets that they are. Our expert team will develop a personalized care plan based on their lifestyle, age, personality, and overall health. Over the years, we will continue to tailor their care plan to best suit their individual needs.

What to Expect at a Wellness Visit

  • One of our veterinarians will complete a nose-to-tail exam
  • Your pet will receive any appropriate vaccinations
  • We will perform parasite screening as indicated
  • Annual lab work will be completed
  • We will discuss any concerns or questions you may have regarding nutrition, dental care, behavioral concerns, and more

Vaccinations

Vaccinations are a key component of preventive care and protect your pet from numerous potentially serious diseases. Vaccines are typically given at 8, 12, and 16 weeks for puppies and kittens and every 1–3 years for adults. We will recommend vaccinations based on your pet’s age and lifestyle. Potential vaccines include:

  • Rabies vaccine (dogs and cats)
  • Distemper/parvo combination (DA2PP; dogs)
  • Leptospirosis (dogs)
  • Bordetella (dogs)
  • Influenza (dogs)
  • Feline distemper combo (FVRCP, cats)
  • Feline Leukemia (cats)
  • Rabbit Hemorrhagic Diarrhea Virus (RHDV, rabbits)

Parasite Screening and Prevention

Based on your pet’s assessment, we may recommend parasite screening (including fecal testing, heartworm testing and/or tick testing). We will also discuss preventives that are appropriate for your pet.

Additional Wellness Care

At CCAH we believe in being your partner for all aspects of your pet’s care and your concerns. Wellness appointments are an ideal time to discuss additional concerns that impact your pet’s health. These may include nutrition consultations, behavior concerns, making at home dental care plans, mobility concerns, exercise, socialization, training etc. We encourage owners to make a list of all concerns and bring these to your appointment for further discussion.

Puppies & Kittens

There's nothing quite like those sweet puppy kisses and silly kitten pounces! Let's start them off on the right paw by introducing them to our highly-skilled team (whose pockets are stuffed with treats!). Using Fear Free techniques your new pet's first visit will include:

  • A nose-to-tail exam. This is where we can establish a baseline for their health and catch any congenital issues early on
  • We will discuss spaying/neutering, nutrition, socialization, and training
  • Protective vaccinations at 8, 12, and 16 weeks

The Golden Years

As much as we love the excitement of our young friends, the slowed pace (and extra snuggles) of our senior pets brings us the greatest joy. And advanced veterinary care means our pets are living longer, healthier lives. Our team recommends the following care for your senior friends:

  • Bi-annual visits
  • Annual lab work
  • Discussions surrounding mobility/joint issues, supplements, pain management, and any additional concerns
  • Based on these appointments, we will adjust their customized care plan to best suit their ever-changing needs
